We’re looking for a Wastewater Manager to lead our dedicated team and oversee the operations of three wastewater facilities (Vail, Avon, and Edwards). This role is an exciting opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a large capital improvement project, a transformative nutrient upgrade that will shape the future of wastewater in our service area.

The Day to Day:
- LEADERSHIP & STRATEGY: Develop and execute the long-term strategy for the wastewater department while managing the implementation of capital upgrades and master plan initiatives. Lead, train, and support a high-performing team while fostering a strong, values-based culture.
- FACILITY MANAGEMENT: Oversee the operations, maintenance, and scheduling of all three facilities to ensure they run safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS). Support and recommend upgrades to key equipment and systems.
- COMPLIANCE & REPORTING: Ensure regulatory compliance with CDPHE and EPA regulations, including discharge permits, reporting, sampling, and water quality standards. Stay on top of changes in policy and proactively address compliance issues.
- INNOVATION & IMPROVEMENT: Serve as a key partner in our $90M CIP nutrient upgrade project and other major infrastructure initiatives. Use your technical and leadership skills to help implement innovative treatment technologies and process improvements.
- COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION: Work closely with other managers, directors, consultants, and stakeholders to align wastewater operations with organizational goals and community needs. Represent the District in meetings with agencies, municipalities, and the public.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field OR 2 years equivalent professional experience
- 7+ years of technical experience (OR 5 years plus bachelor’s degree), with at least 5 years of supervisory or lead-level experience
- Strong understanding of wastewater operations, process control, and environmental compliance
- State of Colorado Wastewater Treatment Class A certification or ability to obtain required
- Valid Colorado Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 30 days) and CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of hire
- Project management or capital project experience
- Data analysis and report writing for regulatory or technical audiences
Schedule
This is an onsite role that will work Monday – Friday regularly and must be able to respond in emergency situations to support the Wastewater team.
Pay Range
The pay range for this role is $130,936.00 - $196,414.40. Starting range depends on qualifications but generally falls within the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
