Summary

ERWSD Seasonal Fleet & Facilities Maintenance Technician

Without well maintained facilities and an efficient fleet, our operations team would not be able to do what they do best: provide efficient and reliable water and wastewater service to our customers. We are currently seeking a positive and customer service focused Fleet and Facilities Maintenance Technician to join the team to perform a variety of tasks to ensure smooth operations, top-notch safety and skilled maintenance of all district facilities and fleet vehicles. This position will work closely with experienced mechanics and our Fleet and Facilities team and will interact vastly with all departments. This role will work forty hours a week and the schedule can be flexible.

As the maintenance technician, your day will be full of variety! An ideal candidate for this role is a person who enjoys crossing tasks off a list, communicates well within a team, and is willing and excited to learn new things. This is a great role for a handy person who currently has professional experience in automotive, construction, carpentry, or grounds maintenance and wants to develop and enhance their skills. The Day to Day:

Fleet

  • Service and perform preventive maintenance and minor repair work on a variety of heavy, specialized, and light equipment.
  • Perform required preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment: checks oil levels, check fluid levels, change lubricants, change filters, apply grease to fittings, moving parts, etc., cleans dirt from air filters, checks operating condition of lights, brakes, hoses, tires, and belts.
  • Maintain vehicle, equipment, and shop cleanliness
  • Read and understand repair manuals and complete work orders
  • Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties in automobiles, trucks and a variety of diesel and gasoline powered maintenance and construction equipment
  • Road tests, inspects and troubleshoots automotive, and light duty trucks and equipment to assess their condition and determine repairs
  • Coordinate with Fleet personnel to have recalls performed on district vehicles.
  • Order materials and supplies required for maintenance and repair work
  • Keep records of work performed including time and materials required by each job
  • Perform on-site field repairs to stationary or disabled equipment
  • Maintain awareness of new trends and technologies in the field of automotive and heavy equipment repair
  • Perform maintenance in a variety of different disciplines: facility maintenance, asphalt and concrete maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, lighting, painting, irrigation, fencing, snow removal, and equipment operations and maintenance

Facilities

  • Perform preventive and daily maintenance on painting, plumbing, heating, electrical and mechanical systems at district facilities. Troubleshoot systems, diagnose problems, and determine defective part to replaces.
  • Oversee work of contractors; monitor and inspect work in progress to ensure quality of work and timely completion of work.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of tools and equipment (in the shop and on assigned District vehicle) and keep them in good working order.
  • Perform plumbing work; repair leaking faucets and pipes; unstop and repair toilets; unstop drains; install plumbing ducts, pipes, and fixtures.
  • Repair appliances including dishwashers, freezers, stoves, microwaves, and disposal.
  • Work alongside or independently from other maintenance personnel and staff and maintain a positive working relationship with all other employees and departments.
  • Remove snow and other debris from sidewalks and parking lots utilizing various snow removal equipment.
  • Maintain landscaping, noxious weeds and irrigation systems; turf/grass, gardens, noxious weeds and replaces and adjusts sprinkler heads, and watering schedule.

Competencies and Qualifications

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma. Must be 18 years or older and able to provide proof of age. Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn. Experience with hand tools. Construction or Automotive experience preferred.
  • COMMUNICATION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE: This role must enjoy working with people and have proven customer service experience. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in English required.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to use office equipment and an ability to work as a member of a team. Basic computer skills required.
  • ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS AND TIME MANAGEMENT: Ability to work productively with minimal direct supervision. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. Strong time management skills required as well. Ability to multi-task. Flexible and able to work with interruptions.
  • CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's license and be insurable under District's standards. Automotive ASE certifications would be preferred.
  • TEAMWORK AND POSITIVITY: Pleasant attitude and an ability to work honestly, and with integrity required. The ability to work as a member of a team is a must.
  • SAFETY: Must be able to understand and apply all safety, employee, and fleet maintenance policies and best practices to create a safe working environment. Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the first six (6) months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or corrosive chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is loud. Job appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided to the employee by ERWSD.

Hiring Range

The pay range for this position is $27.00 – 34.94
