Summary

The Operational Technology Systems (OTS) team is responsible for advanced design, configuration, maintenance, and repair of a variety of industrial electrical and instrumentation devices, controls devices, and systems that support critical District water and wastewater facilities. The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced technician with five years of experience and growing expertise in industrial control system troubleshooting, SCADA systems, PLC programming, and project management. This role involves providing advanced technical guidance, managing key projects, and mentoring team members with industrial control systems.

The Day to Day:

  • Advanced Technical Support: Drives complex initiatives by troubleshooting electrical, automation, instrumentation, and controls systems inclusive of but not limited to sump pumps, motor control and pump control panels, wire installation, conduit, power distribution devices, motor starters, PLCs, probes, sensors, alarms, HMIs, and VFDs according to current electrical code and industry standards. Responds to and resolves tickets for OTS related concerns.
  • Electrical: Configures, installs, and maintains the following in accordance with electrical code: Electrical motor control circuits, MCC’s, ATS/MTS, trailer mounted generators, VFD’s and Soft Starters, relay logic, red line drawings, and breaker coordination understanding,
  • Controls: Designs, configures, and programs SCADA based industrial control system elements. Ensures compliance with technical guidelines and standards on all projects and work. Provide installation, support, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control loops. Basic monitoring and maintenance of an industrial controls network infrastructure. Supports and designs implementation of PLC and HMI programming, alarming, and workflow development.
  • Systems: Makes recommendations on upgrades to existing electrical, controls, and mechanical components/equipment as new technology dictates and identifies strengths and weaknesses of current equipment. Orders parts, supplies, and materials to maintain and repair all equipment within District facilities.
  • Communication: Respectfully collaborates and communicates with peers and the public. Demonstrates a strong work ethic, integrity, positive attitude and is a team player. Establishes and maintains highly effective and respectful working relationships.
  • Administrative: Completes administrative functions correctly and on time including purchasing card reconciliation, time entry, scheduling, and email upkeep. Maintains and secures all assigned district tools, trucks, and Personal Protective Equipment. Updates documentation to reflect project updates and changes.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage technical projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, ensuring adherence to timelines, and provide mentorship to junior staff in the execution of industrial control system initiatives.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, Associates or higher-level degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Industrial Controls, Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Trade School, or another related OR at least six months experience diagnosing and resolving problems involving machine control or industrial electrical systems, preferably involving work with water/wastewater systems strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical theory and industrial control systems including PLC programming, HMI design & programming, instrumentation, and network infrastructure and a strong background in industrial electrical troubleshooting and installation in compliance with NEC is strongly preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and be insurable under District standards.
  • Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within first six months of employment.
  • Must complete Arc-Flash electrical safety training within first six months of employment.
  • Must participate in 24-hour on-call availability on a rotational basis to support all systems.

Salary Range

There are three levels of OTS Technician (1, 2, Senior) with different titles and pay ranges depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Pay range and title depend on certifications and experience. Starting pay depends on qualifications but generally falls within the minimum and midpoint of the pay range. Pay ranges for each level are as follows:

  • OTS Technician 1: $37.16 - $52.03
  • OTS Technician 2: $40.97 - $57.35
  • Senior OTS Technician: $43.01 - $60.23
