Summary

We are seeking an experienced Utility Locator to join our Field Operations team. You will join a team of experts on our Field Operations to maintain the District’s extensive network of underground assets in our unique distribution and collection system. The Day-to-Day

  • Interpret utility maps, as-built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and various locating equipment to locate our assets and underground utility lines.
  • Use stakes, flags, and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities.
  • Gather GIS Data in the field utilizing handheld Trimble unit or other GPS enabled devices.
  • Create and complete computer-generated work orders daily using GIS and CityWorks. Prepare various reports, forms, photos, and memos to document work orders, issues encountered, and resolutions. Verify field information and notify relevant departments regarding updates and corrections.
  • Investigate and prepare detailed written documentation following excavations that result in damage to underground utilities.

The duties of this position will vary by season and the needs of the Field Operations department. When Locating duties are not necessary, you will join the team in other duties pertaining to the repair and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Qualifications & Competencies

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, and three years of utility locating experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures of the Colorado 811 Tier 1 system preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Collection I and Distribution I certifications through CCWP within the first year of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's license and be insurable under District's standards.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver License within the first year of employment. Necessary training and exam access for CDL are provided by the District.
  • Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the first year of employment.

Schedule

The regular schedule for this position will be 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and will be responsible for occasional on-call shifts. You are required to respond within one hour for on-call duties.

Salary Range

This role will be hired into one of two levels within the Field Operations team. Starting level and pay will be determined by specific certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Hourly pay ranges for each level are as follows:

  • Field Operator II: $29.12 - $40.77 (3-6 years of Locating experience)
  • Field Operator III: $32.10 - $44.94 (6+ years of Locating experience)
