Water Conservation Internship

 

The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District provides high quality, affordable drinking water to its customers to protect public health and the natural surroundings. The District uses advanced treatment technologies and innovative approaches to water operations management, ensuring protection of its local watersheds. We are currently looking for students or recent graduates to intern with our water demand management program, which is located within the customer service department.

 

The purpose of the water demand management program is to empower customers to use water more efficiently over time, in order to use the existing water supply to serve an expanding population, while protecting water rights and the natural water resource. This internship will work on a variety of projects as assigned by the water demand management coordinator to support district water demand management program goals and efforts.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is equally comfortable crunching data as they are having a conversation with our customers about water conservation. The ideal candidate for this role must be committed to environmental stewardship, have strong customer service skills, and be able to take initiative while collaborating with a highly productive team of fun and friendly people. The ideal timeframe for this candidate is suited for a recent graduate. We would prefer an intern who can start in April or May and work for six months.

 

What You Will Do:

 
     
  • Perform customer outreach, including shifts at the Vail farmers’ market; informing customers of water use regulations and providing follow-up for customers not in compliance; and answering customer questions related to their water use
  •  
  • Create mechanisms for tracking of conservation activities
  •  
  • Assist with project management related to implementation of customer engagement software, GIS updates, and other water demand management pilot programs
  •  
  • Perform data collection and evaluation and assist with statutorily required reporting related to conservation activities

Qualifications:

 
     
  • Must be pursuing or have recently completed a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university within Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management, or related field; Or pursuing a technical degree from a Technical, Scientific or Trade Institution in Environmental Studies, Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Watershed Science or other related course.
  •  
  • Strong communication skills and customer service experience required.
  •  
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License and be insurable by District standards.
  •  
  • Required to follow all District safety and security policies and wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by the job duties.
  •  
  • Working knowledge of irrigation system efficiency and native and adapted landscape design is desirable.
  •  
  • Knowledge of GIS and Excel strongly preferred.
  •  
  • Research skills and ability to analyze data required.
  •  
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and be insurable under District standards.

  • Required to follow all District safety and security policies and wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by the job duties.
